Lorenz Graham, who was born in New Orleans, was inspired by an uncle, a bishop, to go to Africa. His work took him to schools and mission stations in Liberia and Sierra Leona. He enjoyed his work, and was determined to contribute as much as he could to the life of the local people, but felt that Africa contributed more to him than he gave.
These are stories of an African boy who has heard almost nothing of western civilization He is happy and free and not at all disturbed.
